Maintenance & Care How to Video

When a Bissell vacuum cleaner starts smoking, the belt may be stretched and frayed, a google search was started for a replacement belt. The condition of the worn broken belt still shows on the side, the part number and UPC sticker code. Bissell the company has great how to videos and great support teams that are easy to call.

PowerForce® Helix® Upright Vacuum | Brush Not Turning

The company will call and talk about issues with Bissell products. Bottom line the belt was bad and replacement was needed. However during discovery the vacuum roll brush itself didn't work anymore. That was the main Problem. The roll brush no longer was spinning freely and was completely jammed. While speaking with the Bissell customer service agent they said yes, they go bad they're plastic and get a new one. They break all the time. The part was ordered and arrived on time. Even though it looked different than what was shown on the website it worked perfectly.

Instructions how to remove the vacuum roll brush

  1. To clean your TurboBrush, twist the gray collar counter-clockwise. Once the slot appears, separate the faceplate. If the paddle wheel gets dislodged, align the two clips on each side and pop it into place. The faceplate will not close properly if all the parts are not aligned correctly.
  2. To empty your dirt container, press the empty button. Pull the handle to push the Dirt container away from the vacuum. Holding Dirt container over a trash bin, press the release button on the back. Once empty, snap the bottom back into place.
  3. To clean the pre motor filter, open the dirt container lid by lifting the release latch on the front. Remove the pre motor filter and pull the filter out to clean. Once it's clean and dry, place it back in the dirt container lid.
  4. To access your post motor filter the dirt container must be removed. Press the filter cover release button to access the post motor filter.
  5. Clean all the filters with mild detergent, rinse, and squeeze all excess water. Allow filters to dry completely before reinserting.
  6. To clean your separator, the dirt container must be removed. Remove the separator by twisting to the left and removing.
  7. Rinse and dry all sections of the dirt container with paper towel.

To replace the brush and belt, turn the vacuum off and unplug.

  1. Turn the unit over and unscrew the 5 Phillips head screws to remove the bottom cover. Pull the roller straight out, threading it through the belt.
  2. Replace the brush roll and belt by looping the belt over the motor shaft and brush roll. Line up the end caps and pull the brush roll. This will stretch the belt.
  3. Once the brush roll is reinstalled, place the bottom cover back on and replace the screws.
  4. To clear a clog, remove the hose from the back of the vacuum by twisting it to the left. Remove any debris that may have gotten clogged.
  5. Remove the screw from the foot hose and check for clogs.
  6. Check the air passageway on the bottom of your vacuum. remove the bottom cover and the brush. Remove any debris.
